Photography | Kate: Light in the October Woods
Kate uses light as the defining element of these woodland portraits. A woman dressed in shimmering white moves between dense trees, while low sunlight catches individual sequins, strands of hair and the edges of her silhouette. Rather than illuminating the entire scene, Kate allows much of the forest to remain dark. The result is a figure who seems to appear from the landscape rather than simply pose within it.

Flowers are fading, leaves are beginning to turn, and around the autumn equinox, daylight begins its retreat toward winter. In this series, Денис Нагайцев (Denys Nahaitsev) builds his subject around that transition. She is not simply dressed as a witch. Her clothing, colors and objects make her feel almost like a personification of September itself: life still present, harvest underway and decay beginning to enter the landscape.
