As the Summer Solstice approaches and the sun reaches its highest point in the sky, June invites us to consider what we are truly devoted to. Devotion is more than commitment - it is the conscious direction of our energy, attention, and care. This month, Bruja explores devotion in all its forms: devotion to art, to healing, to beauty, to spirit, and to the ongoing process of becoming.
Throughout June and July, our Sacred Feminine column by Sasha explores this theme through a series of essays on inner child healing, self-worth, boundaries, awakening, and the journey toward inner union. Together, these pieces ask what becomes possible when we redirect our devotion away from external validation and toward our own growth, healing, and wholeness.
Under the light of the Solstice, what we nurture becomes visible, reminding us that our lives are shaped by what we choose to honor and sustain.
The Solstice is Upon Us
As June unfolds, so does one of the oldest seasons of celebration in the Northern Hemisphere. Long before modern calendars, communities marked this month as a sacred threshold - a time when the earth was at its most fertile, flowers were in full bloom, and daylight stretched toward its annual peak. The weeks leading to the Summer Solstice were traditionally filled with gatherings, feasts, flower crowns, bonfires, music, and rituals honoring abundance, love, beauty, and the life-giving power of the sun.
This season reaches its climax at Midsummer, also known as the Summer Solstice, which occurs this year on June 20, 2026, at 10:24 PM CDT. It marks the longest day and shortest night of the year, when the sun appears to stand still before beginning its gradual descent toward autumn
